Health insurance is an important aspect of a safe and stress-free life. However, it is important that one knows all the covers and conditions in order to get the full benefit. There are some things that you may think should be covered because they are a part of your health. Although it makes sense, most of the time those things are not covered. One of those things is dental coverage. let’s take a look at all the things related to dental coverage in health insurance!Does Health Insurance Provide Dental Cover? Health insurance covers do not provide coverage for dental procedures because they are considered cosmetic procedures. However, in case of an accident, the insurance policies cover for basic dental procedures. Since dental procedures are all under aesthetic procedures so they are not covered by health insurance policies. Why Is Dental Not Covered In Health Insurance? It really does not make a lot of sense for almost anyone to not have their dental or oral health covered since oral health is the gateway to your health overall. Your oral health can determine the overall health of your body and your organs yet it still isn’t considered a genuine health procedure rather than a cosmetic procedure. There are many answers to this but the most common one is that in most cases, unlike other health concerns, dental procedures can wait and are generally not life-threatening. And unfortunately, they do wait, most of them till the next paycheck! Other than that many dental issues are preventable with good hygiene and the correct use of dental products like quality toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, and floss. Unless you have been in an accident that deformed your jaw and you cannot wait because you need your teeth to eat and chew. In this scenario, the dental is covered to a limit included in your insurance policy. Is There Any Other Insurance Solely Dedicated To Dental Cover? In Pakistan, unfortunately, there is no such insurance policy that is solely dedicated to dental procedures. Due to the fact that dental procedures are not life-threatening and can wait till you have saved up for the appointment. And in other cases, many times the patients can wait out the pain. Even in accidental coverage, the dental is treated within 48 hours and only to the extent of pain relief. In Conclusion…After 48 hours if the dental pain is not treated, it will not be covered. Other procedures involving invasive methods like operation are also not covered by the health insurance policy. Any kind of operation needed by the insured will be paid out of pocket. This is due to the fact that dental issues might be related to your overall health but they do not threaten your life. Hence they are not considered a medical emergency. What you can do in order to have a dental procedure done is to either save up and wait till you have enough for the appointment or wait till the pain subsides on its own.
